The experience at Chelsea College of Art (ca. 1965 1968) must have been not as wonderful as Rima perhaps hoped. After graduating and still while studying, she worked in amateur theatre productions.
In 1965, she participated in amateur west London theatre in a group named Brook Green Players although her first appearance was as Dannys maid in Night Must Fall by Emlyn Williams at the Methodist Hall in Askew Road, Shepherds Bush, London. Further, she worked in the Court Drama Group at the London County Council Evening Institute in 1966-1967 and in the Court Drama Group at the Stanhope Adult Education Institute near the Great Portland tube station. In the later she made an appearance as Moth the page in Love Labours Lost under direction of Wilf Sharp.
However, as much as Rima would have loved to become an actress, she changed her mind and orientated herself towards economics and political matters.
In 1986 she becomes Labour councillor for Saint Charles Ward in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. She would occupy herself with town planning and education projects until 1992, when she also becomes a senior lecturer at the Kingston University in Surrey. In March of the same year Rima stands the MP General Election as well and loses with 4,682 votes (17.5%) to Nicholas Scott. Unfortunately also her try for the Regents Park and Kensington North seat is lost to Karen Buck. In 1995 she has been chosen amongst one of the councillors to write column on a regular basis for Kensington News and is known to have occupied herself on projects about pelican crossings and guardrails.
Despite rumours that her career was now on a low-key local-government politics level, her work amounts seemed to increase with all extra projects and interests on top of counselling (her current colleagues are J. Robert Atkinson (Lab) and Stephen P. Hoier (Lab)).
In 2001 Rima was elected as a Labours candidate for Mayoral elections in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Intensive work possibly could have been the reason why she became a part-time lecturer in applied microeconomics at Kingston University although she still held an office on the 3rd floor of Human Sciences on campus and then even took an early retirement in 2002. Yet, nowadays she still remains a passive member of the university.
Today, as in the past, she is said to still struggle with speech writing, be popular among her colleagues and is generally a do-gooder. To the present, suiting these descriptions, she occupies positions in North Kensington Community Centre and London Congress Centre. Also, she is said to work abroad in central Europe and USA on occasions.
